Top 10 Favorites Books of 2020

Hi Everyone!

A new year and new issues with my wifi, but today I have the chance to share with you my top of 10 favorite books of the last year. By the way, last year I reached my goal of reading 50 books during the year and I feel very proud of myself. it was an small acomplish for me but I feel very happy about that. I started this year reading my favorite book.

I am going to share a small synopsis about each book and some of my feelings about the book. I like to say feelings not a review because this is not a proper review, just some feelings and thoughts about the book.

10. A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer

Fall in love, break the curse.
Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his eighteenth year, Prince Rhen, the heir of Emberfall, thought he could be saved easily if a girl fell for him. But that was before he turned into a vicious beast hell-bent on destruction. Before he destroyed his castle, his family, and every last shred of hope.

Nothing has ever been easy for Harper. With her father long gone, her mother dying, and her brother constantly underestimating her because of her cerebral palsy, Harper learned to be tough enough to survive. When she tries to save a stranger on the streets of Washington, DC, she's pulled into a magical world. Break the curse, save the kingdom.

My Opinion: It was beautiful because I started reading this book with such low expectations. but as I continued my reading I realized that this retelling was very well done. Little by little the characters grow and although it is not the first time that I read a book about the history of Beauty and the Beast, it had several new elements. A book that I read to myself in about 3 days was really great.

9. A Heart So Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer

Find the heir, win the crown.
The curse is finally broken, but Prince Rhen of Emberfall faces darker troubles still. Rumors circulate that he is not the true heir and that forbidden magic has been unleashed in Emberfall. Although Rhen has Harper by his side, his guardsman Grey is missing, leaving more questions than answers.
Win the crown, save the kingdom.

My Opinion: I guess this is one of those books that doesn't have 5 stars and is on this top. The reason is that even when some things were off for me this book like a sequel has great elements. I enjoyed almost everything about this book and I read this book in two days It was pretty enjoyable.

8. Dance of Thieves by Mary E. Pearson

When the patriarch of the Ballenger empire dies, his son, Jase, becomes its new leader. Even nearby kingdoms bow to the strength of this outlaw family, who have always governed by their own rules. But a new era looms on the horizon, set in motion by a young queen, which makes her the target of the dynasty's resentment and anger.

At the same time, Kazi, a legendary former street thief, is sent by the queen to investigate transgressions against the new settlements. When Kazi arrives in the forbidding land of the Ballengers, she learns that there is more to Jase than she thought. As unexpected events spiral out of their control, bringing them intimately together, they continue to play a cat and mouse game of false moves and motives in order to fulfill their own secret missions.

My Opinion: First Mary E. Pearson is one of my favorite authors. She wrote one of my favorite trilogies The Kiss of Deception. The characters in this book are memorable. Kazi and Jase are one of my favorite characters. This book contains a lot of action and powerful females (like most of my favorite books). This book is in the universe of Kiss of Deception by the same author but around 10 years later.

7. Vow of Thieves (Dance of Thieves #2)by Mary E. Pearson

Kazi and Jase have survived, stronger and more in love than ever. Their new life now lies before them―the Ballengers will be outlaws no longer, Tor's Watch will be a kingdom, and the two of them will meet all challenges side by side, together at last.

But an ominous warning mars their journey back, and in their rush to return to Tor's Watch, just outside the fortress walls, they are violently attacked and torn apart―and each is thrust into their own new hell.

My Opinion: The action that goes on in this book is great although there are a great number of relationships that develop and great suspense. And a very good ending, one of the best endings and story development I've ever read.

6. Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin

Bound as one to love, honor, or burn.
Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like Lou are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned.

Sworn to the Church as a Chasseur, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. His path was never meant to cross with Lou's, but a wicked stunt forces them into an impossible union—holy matrimony.

My Opinion: When I think of this book I think is the amazing chemistry between Lou and Reid. This book has a powerful starting which is great during all the book. This only book was one of my favorites books of this year because It was my first book about witches. But the second book or the sequel was really disappointed but I am lying to myself If I don´t say that this one It was one of my favorites.

5. The Dawn Chorus by Samantha Shannon

Paige Mahoney and Arcturus Mesarthim have arrived in the Scion Citadel of Paris. Exhausted by her efforts against Scion, Paige has no choice but to remain in hiding, away from the revolution she started, so she can heal and come to terms with her mental and physical scars.

In the confines of a safe house, Arcturus and Paige begin to reconnect after following separate paths for weeks. As they wait for contact from the mysterious Domino Programme – an espionage network operating in Scion – their present begins to mirror their past.

My Opinion: This is the 3.5 Book in a series which makes it a little complicated everything because I already read 4 books before this one in this series. But this book is a bridge between the third and four books in the series. This book has everything that I need and probably I am going to re-read this book again soon due in a few weeks is gonna be released the four-book. An ebook that is intense with many feelings.

4. Layla by Colleen Hoover

When Leeds meets Layla, he’s convinced he’ll spend the rest of his life with her—until an unexpected attack leaves Layla fighting for her life. After weeks in the hospital, Layla recovers physically, but the emotional and mental scarring has altered the woman Leeds fell in love with. In order to put their relationship back on track, Leeds whisks Layla away to the bed-and-breakfast where they first met. Once they arrive, Layla’s behavior takes a bizarre turn. And that’s just one of many inexplicable occurrences.

Feeling distant from Layla, Leeds soon finds solace in Willow—another guest of the B&B with whom he forms a connection through their shared concerns. As his curiosity for Willow grows, his decision to help her find answers puts him in direct conflict with Layla’s well-being. Leeds soon realizes he has to make a choice because he can’t help both of them. But if he makes the wrong choice, it could be detrimental for all of them.

My Opinion: Collen Hoover is one of my favorite authors but her paranormal books are really few but they are interested. This is not so paranormal this is more suspense with romance. I had so many feelings this book I was angry with Leed almost during all my reading but at some point, I was like HOLY SHIT THIS IS INSANE xD and everything is so well written I don´t know the best way to read this book is to know very little about this one.

3. From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout (Blood and Ash #1)

A Maiden…

Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience a pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

A Duty…

The entire kingdom’s future rests on Poppy’s shoulders, something she’s not even quite sure she wants for herself. Because a Maiden has a heart. And a soul. And longing. And when Hawke, a golden-eyed guard honor-bound to ensure her Ascension, enters her life, destiny and duty become tangled with desire and need. He incites her anger, makes her question everything she believes in, and tempts her with the forbidden.

A Kingdom…

Forsaken by the gods and feared by mortals, a fallen kingdom is rising once more, determined to take back what they believe is theirs through violence and vengeance. And as the shadow of those cursed draws closer, the line between what is forbidden and what is right becomes blurred. Poppy is not only on the verge of losing her heart and being found unworthy by the gods, but also her life when every blood-soaked thread that holds her world together begins to unravel.

My Opinion: This book was a fucking surprise and every aspect. This was my first book by Jennifer L. Armentrout  I never expect so love this book so much and so quickly. I fell in love with the characters really fast. The chemistry, the universe, the development of each character is amazing. First I was like, Oh this is a fantasy world everything is going really smoothly. And after several chapters, I was like Holy Shit this book has some specie of vampires. Sincerely I didn´t have any idea. But everything continues going in the story and wow even when I started this book I read 634 pages which is over the media of books I read that are 500 pages this book contains so much good information and some good scenes. Probably you already can feel how this book reached the top 3 of my top 10 of 2020.

2. A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire (Blood and Ash #2)
by Jennifer L. Armentrout

A Betrayal…

Everything Poppy has ever believed in is a lie, including the man she was falling in love with. Thrust among those who see her as a symbol of a monstrous kingdom, she barely knows who she is without the veil of the Maiden. But what she does know is that nothing is as dangerous to her as him. The Dark One. The Prince of Atlantia. He wants her to fight him, and that’s one order she’s more than happy to obey. He may have taken her, but he will never have her.

A Choice...

Casteel Da’Neer is known by many names and many faces. His lies are as seductive as his touch. His truths as sensual as his bite. Poppy knows better than to trust him. He needs her alive, healthy, and whole to achieve his goals. But he’s the only way for her to get what she wants—to find her brother Ian and see for herself if he has become a soulless Ascended. Working with Casteel instead of against him presents its own risks. He still tempts her with every breath, offering up all she’s ever wanted. Casteel has plans for her. Ones that could expose her to unimaginable pleasure and unfathomable pain. Plans that will force her to look beyond everything she thought she knew about herself—about him. Plans that could bind their lives together in unexpected ways that neither kingdom is prepared for. And she’s far too reckless, too hungry, to resist the temptation.

My Opinion: This is book is the continuation of From Blood and Ash and wow If the first book was amazing this second was leave me speechless for several days. I didn´t have an idea of how to recover from the book hangover that this book gave me. That is my opinion about how good this book was.

1. House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City, #1) by Sarah J. Maas

Bound by blood.
Tempted by desire.
Unleashed by destiny.

Bryce Quinlan had a perfect life—working hard all day and partying all night—until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She’ll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.

Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose—to assassinate his boss’s enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he’s offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach.

As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City’s underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion—one that could set them both free, if they’d only let it.

My Opinion: HOLY FUCKING SHIT! I can say with nothing inside my heart that If one book saved me was this one. When I read this book I was feeling so empty and so sad and wow the story is really intense and has many sad times. But the power of love is bigger. The best way to read this book is with a very open mind and heart and the story is amazing with over 800 pages this book was everything and nothing surpasses the incredible story of was this book. This book is not about romance is about fantasy, friendship, and power.

    Beijinhos! Tudo de bom!
